Bane will be one of the bad guys, and Anne Hathaway has been cast as Catwoman in THE DARK KNIGHT RISES (terrible title):

Sweet! I was hoping for Keira Knightley, but it's hard to complain about Hathaway as an actress.

Tom Hardy (who played Eames in Nolan's Inception) will also be in the film, playing Bane.

Still, it sounds like this is the assumption. I can deal with her as Catwoman, no problem. I'm a little disappointed to hear that Bane is being featured, as I would hope for a more classic villain, but there's lots one could do with him... and it would bring us a step closer to forgetting Batman and Robin.

I have faith Nolan will make his Bane more faithful to the books than the Schumacher debacle.

I don't consider Nolan necessarily faithful to the comics, but he does know how to tell a great, complex story.

And, of course, anything would have to be better than Batman and Robin.

I'm clueless with the comics of Batman, but all I know is that all Nolan is capable of is producing boring Batman set in a real universe with very very little sense of fun. But maybe that's more that fault of Christian Bale's performance of Batman. I will conclude by saying I don't value Batman & Robin at all, but I thought Batman Forever had the right tone of silliness and seriousness. I guess I prefer my superheroes to be by fanciful than real. I mean we are talking about a rich millionaire dressing as a bat.

Batman's the wrong superhero to choose if you want one that's fanciful.

While that's true to an extent, I think Nolan's tossing out of humour has made Batman into a very very boring superhero. I enjoyed Burton's 2 Batman films and Schumacher's 1st effort. But I have found both Nolan's effort to be extremely labourious to sit through especially Batman Begins. And I still scratch my head over The Dark Knight's success. I'm not holding my breath with anticipatioin for the new Batman movie. I think Winnie-The-Pooh is higher on my must see list that The Dark Knight Rises and I have no inclination to see Winnie in cinemas.

That's the thing about Batman, though. He's all work and no play. Makes him a dull boy? Absolutely. But he could care less so long as he gets the job done.

What gets a lot of people excited about the franchise, though, is the opposition he faces. Batman has what is widely regarded as the greatest rogues gallery of villains in any medium. The villains are the driving force behind the stories and it's Batman's ability to overcome the adversity and how he does it that gives the fans goosebumps.

Let's keep in mind that Batman wasn't always so seious. He spent decades being a lighter character. Even those 1940s comics weren't always as serious as people claim. I mean, Robin debuted in 1941 already.

That said, I like Nolan's films a lot. However, I'd love to see something in-between Nolan's take and the Adam West version--- just a good, fun superhero movie.

Which is what I felt Batman Forever achieved: a good, fun superhero movie. Perhaps if Catwoman does appear in the third movie as is applied there will at least be some light hearted banter between Bruce and Selina.

I personally feel the Bruce Timm animated series has been the best take on the character. He's taken seriously, but not overtly so.
