Valiant

Just a quick info about the Vanguard movie:

It will be released in France on march 30th and will NOT be distributed by Disney here, but by a local channel (M6), just like the Jakie Chan's movie "Around the World in 80 days" which was a Disney movie in the USA but not in Europe.

Isn't Valiant being produced by Vanguard and being released by Buena Vista (Disney)? Where does Dreamworks come in? It should either say "Vanguard's Film" or "Disney-Vanguard Film"

And Comingsoon.net says that Valiant's release date has been pushed back 4 months to August 19, 2005.

That is excellent news!, this means that Disney saw how much great promotion is going on for "Robots", so they will ultimately pull a promotional campaign for 'Valiant" here in the states... if they push Ewan McGregor, people will definitely go! Alot of people were scared about the april 15th release date considering there hasnt even been a proper us trailer/teaser shown anywhere in the states.

yeah, just because it says 'from the producer of Shrek' doesn't mean it's done by Dreamworks, although I can understand why everyone automatically asumes that. We all know how Dreamworks loves to promote Shrek. But as far as I know, Disney is handling this film, at least in the U.S. I'm not sure about the rest of the world though.

I swear the main page just said Dreamworks ten seconds ago, it's been changed real fast :P:)

You are right. It did say DreamWorks, but I mentioned in our staff forum that it should be Disney.

Buena Vista is handling the US.

It's coming out March 25 in the UK through Odyssey Distributors.

Do you have any clue as to why Disney is treating Valiant like it is? Do you think this is another case like Finding Nemo and Lost, in which Eisner felt the project would not do well?

This is just a theory, but it would be very embarrassing if Valiant did better than Chicken Little. Maybe they know it will do well, but don't really want it to.

Whatever it is, Valiant deserves to be seen by a lot of people.

I hope Vanguard are able to take their next projects away from the Mouse if they are going to be decent little films like this but be shunted into dead-end summer slots with no promotion...

I wouldn't say that the release date is bad. Keep in mind that in some cases, mediocre and "decent enough" films are made into blockbusters, due to a lack of competition (Shark Tale, Hitch...).

...but with all-out promotional and marketing campaigns!

Bear in mind that Disney are putting Valiant out into a crowded summer marketplace with, so far, little backing...
