Oh dear. I hate to tell everyone else who isn’t familiar with the original, but it was cack then and it’s cack now. Starfighter always felt like a cheap 70s TV pilot that got a big screen release...how it attained cult status on home video is beyond me. Were we really that starved for knock-off from knock-offs of Star Wars back then? I guess so...

Sorry I can’t be more enthusiastic for you G, but all of these fantasy 80s revivals have been falling flat...and those were based on *good* original properties...!

I hated it in theaters too, and I honestly can't remember why.
It helps when you can (like those Millennial kids) start creating this mythical idea of "80's Movies" as some genre of its own, in which case, it's quintessential. Oh, and Robert Preston...PERIOD.

And at least this revival is the writer's own labor of love, and not a studio's attempt to revive a franchise brandname or exploit an 80's MGM title they could get for free.
If we did get that Warner next-generation Goonies sequel, or a Solarbabies reboot, then I'd be cynical, but...

I enjoyed TLS for the cheesy 'b-movie' it was (still spin it up on Blu-ray, on occasion) .. and there's no denying it's a landmark film, in terms of its CG VFX.
