Rubik's Cube - The Movie!

Post by gaastra »

Really! Will rubix the amazing cube make his big return! Will it be based on the life of the rubix creator and 80s cube craze or will it be a fantasy with a rubix cube?

Last time hollywood did rubix.

You can’t just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!

That reminds, when I first saw title I read it as "Cubix the Movie". That took me back.

Or will it be a kiddy adaptation of Hellraiser?

The cartoon is somewhat notable for being one of the first to have Latino leads. But it was very bizarre.

Yes, like a fever dream! Still, I have a little nostalgia for it. ;)

From my own dim memories of 80's Saturday morning, and few pieces I've been able to resurface on the Net, "Fever dream" is the right word for it.
It's hard to remember a time when we thought E.T. was worth knocking off.

(And it was years before I found out Rubik's voice was Ron "Arnold Horschack" Pallilo sped up.)

I am totally lost on this one. When has ET, the biggest film of its time, not ever been worth knocking off...!??!!? :?

Yay! He hit the bingo! Turns out you *can* lead a horse to water, *and* make it drink! ;)

Yes, that ET Goes To McDonald's one is the obvious, easy target that everyone always drags up...but that still doesn’t make sense of your comment on ET itself. It was the massive commercial, critical and cultural zeitgeist phenomenon of its era...of course there would be knock offs.

But that doesn’t mean the original wasn’t worth knocking off in the first place. When you have the rare thing like that, when are you never not going to get people sponging off it? There are loads of overt and not so overt ET rips that continue to this day...but how that means ET was not worth knocking off still has me stumped.

And you can bring a horse to water, but a pencil must be led. :)

Since you hijacked this thread and not me, sure, I'll play along:
Even though I'm not quite understanding the logic here--My point was, nothing is "worth" knocking off, no matter how good the original was, how nonsensically you do it, or how desperate or often it's done. That's like saying "I have a better stereo system in my apartment, because mine's stolen more often! "
It's not some "prize" to be won, to say that ET had "more" ripoffs than Avatar, and was therefore a greater cultural success...And if it was, I'd be watching that Asylum "Legend of Aladdin" right now, since the Disney live-action got one and the animated one didn't.

Just that 70's-80's Saturday morning knew that a new generation of movies/TV was grabbing kids' attention, and since we always watched the new-season previews to see WHAT movies and TV shows were desperately being clone-replicated ("Oh, look, Turbo Teen, it's a Knight Rider show!"), it was more a case of "Okay, if you're going to do ET, let's see whatcha got."
And with Rubik, we soon...regretted that curiosity.

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

There is no "Legend of Aladdin", the title is Adventures of Aladdin.
